It was entirely my fault. Lily slept very well apart from waking twice before 10 (while I was still working) and once at 5:30 am. That is a bit earlier than usual but the poor little girl has a runny nose and it is nice to get upright in such a situation.
I however was very naughty. After stopping work I was just too tired to go to bed and went on doing stupid things on the computer. This resulted in me becoming useless in the morning and while Puil and Lily had a good time I was totally knocked out. I also couldn't go to the party as it would have been impossible to get ready on time. The original plan was that we all go to the party and I leave after an hour to get back home on time for my lift to our match. So I just walked them to the bus stop and here I am doing a bit of cleaning and than off I go.
From today till the PGD in April I will be good. I will go to bed at 9:30 the latest each day (apart from training and match days as they tend to be long and are out of my control). I will be a good and fun company for Puil and Lily and I will work very hard so that I can relax a bit in April. Now that I wrote it down I really can't back out.
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis, or PGD is an astonishing technique to save yet unborn children from inherited genetic diseases. For the couples it is a very steep and narrow path to take and sometimes it is hard to remember that we also have a life to live. A great and fun life full of love.

A busy week
Spent 3 days at work, went twice to the soft play centre, visited 1 new baby group, bought a lot of boring (healthy) food, cooked 5 meals, drank 10 litres of water, exercised 3 evenings, slept 42 hours and had 1 PGD appointment.
The PGD appointment was over phone and was quite quick. It seems that we are mostly going to repeat our first cycle with slight differences. The main idea is to start on a low stimulation dose and not to increase this dose unless absolutely necessary. It is written onto our notes and e-mailed out to everyone. We are not sure though what to think about that. Last time it was written onto our notes that egg collection should not happen before day 14 and it still happened on day 13.
I also have lower back pain which is quite unfair given that I am not pregnant.
Work is quite exciting much-much better than what I expected. And I also appreciate the time spent with my family even more. Tomorrow is Sunday and we are going to a family friendly party. Unluckily I also have a match to play so I will have to depart early and leave Puil and Lily behind. I hope we win at least.

Another great day
My supervisor agreed to my plan to work 4 days a week. She had her reservations but as long as my project is going OK it should be fine. She is the only person at work who knew about our PGD. She was also very honest about it. She didn't think it was a good idea but she couldn't have been more supportive. I love her.
The local hospital agreed to cooperate with our London clinic to do the blood tests and scans. They do the tests between 7:30-8:00 a.m. so noone will notice that I am doing an IVF PGD treatment. The consultant we saw was amazing and she even had PGD expertise from her previous job.
A telephone consultation is booked with our London consultant for next week. I really hope we can get started soon.
Today I have a whole day with Lily and tomorrow Puil has a whole day with her. And finally Sunday is for all 3 of us.
Life is great.

I love riding with my daughter
Today morning we went into Lily's room with a box. When we opened the box out came a puppet. It was the nursery puppet we made yesterday. She was very excited and happy to see the puppet. She couldn't know at that point what it meant but she will hopefully learn it soon. There is also a puppet for Puil and one for me. Each morning we are going to present her the appropriate one.
Although it was sad to take her away I loved riding my bike with her. She also enjoyed it a lot. The roads are a bit too busy for my liking so I cycle on the pavement. Luckily there are not too many pedestrians so I am not being very annoying for them. I am not the only one to cycle on the pavement, I met several others.
I worked really hard all day as I want to get pregnant so I have to finish everything before my next maternity leave. I am not thinking "if" I get pregnant anymore, I am rather thinking "when" I get pregnant. I also started to take pregnancy multivitamins. Admittedly it does feel a bit weird taking a pregnancy multivitamin not pregnant but I don't care anymore.
Tomorrow we have an appointment with our local clinic. Hopefully they will agree to cooperate with our London clinic. This is our first appointment where we do not take Lily with us. She will be much happier in the nursery and will love it when both of us turn up to collect her.

Exercise
I went to an exercise class yesterday and today. Yesterday's one was a bit disappointing but today's was fantastic! I don't have much choice of which class I go to as it has to be after Lily's bedtime so I am very lucky to have found something so suitable for me.
The fitness centre is only 10 minutes running from us and this exercise class involves a lot of jumping around with a super friendly instructor. I already booked next week's class. I want to carry on during the IVF as well so I have to make sure the doctors understand this and don't make me produce 30 folllicles again! There is a danger of ovarian torsion when exercising with too large ovaries and it does sound scary.

Correction
Two tiny polyps were found during Puil's sigmiodoscopy. I am a bit more reassured however I know of people who had nothing in that bit of their colon and plenty further up.

Puil's sigmiodoscopy
Puil showed some signs of colon cancer. This happened right after our failed PGD cycle. For a long time he did not take many signs into account as he thought they are because of our difficult times.
I will not go into details but if someone has a gentic predestination for colon cancer than it can be quite scary. After a visit to the GP he got to see a specialist who promised that his colonoscopy will be brought forward to December. The specialist however was not convinced that his symptoms are coming from polyps in his bowel. She beleived it is just a coincidence of having irritable bowel syndrome and hemorrhoids at the same time.
After a long silence Puil started to chase things up. His appointment showed up in the system as cancelled. He was not particulary worried as he himself is certain that his symptoms were caused by having more polyps than usual from all the stress we had and after he returned to normal most of the polyps disappeared as well.
It is possible, it happened to his sister, Valerie. Valerie had so may polyps at her second ever colonoscopy that the consultants wanted to remove her bowel there and then at the age of 18. But Valee did not agree. At her repeated colonoscopy the hundreds of polyps disappeared and since then she has an acceptable number of polyps every year. Acceptable for someone with FAP I mean. A normal healthy person should have no polyps in their bowel at all.
Puil made another phone call just to see what is happening. We became quite good in chasing things up thanks to all the PGD experience. It turned out that his colonoscopy got changed into a sigmiodoscopy and his next colonoscopy due in May was now pushed over to next December. Sigmiodoscopy only surveys the lower third of the colon but it is a much easier procedure according to Puil. I should take his word on this as I don't really want to test them myself.
Anyway his results came back clear. Am I worried? Yes I am. Seeing no polyps in one part doesn't mean anything for the rest. And he always has some polyps. Always. Every year. How could there be none this time? There was no mention of the suspected hemorrhoids as well. The original reasoning for having a sigmiodoscopy instead of a colonoscopy was that the hemorrhoids can be proven and thus the presence of larger polyps can be outruled.
Luckily however we got lots of lovely reassuring e-mails from our support group members telling us that things usually do not happen that quickly and when they do happen the NHS is wonderful. So here's hoping.
